Wake Forest Improves Visual Experience for Baseball with Daktronics Upgrade

When Demon Deacon fans returned to David F. Couch Ballpark in 2024, they were greeted by a new LED video display in the outfield after Daktronics partnered with Wake Forest University. The installation in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was completed before the first pitch of the 2024 season.

“The Kentners have provided consistent leadership within the Wake Forest community and we are proud to be able to honor their transformational commitment with their family name on this newly christened video board inside the best college baseball venue in the country, David F. Couch Ballpark,” says Wake Forest Director of Athletics John Currie. “Additionally, I want to extend my appreciation for our partners at Daktronics and our hard-working Athletics staff who have worked to make this project come to life as the Kentner Family Video Board will be a tremendous enhancement as we continue to provide the best fan experience in North Carolina. I am grateful for Jeff and Pam’s longtime friendship and deeply thankful for their continued commitment to Wake Forest.”

Video Display Details

The new outfield video display measures 23 feet high by 43 feet wide and features an 8-millimeter pixel spacing to deliver high-resolution imagery and wide-angle visibility to fans in every seat. It features environmental protection ensuring it operates as expected in the outdoors of the Wake Forest campus.

The display is capable of variable content zoning allowing it to show one large image or to be divided into multiple zones of varying content. This content can be any combination of live video, instant replays, statistics and game information, graphics and animations, or sponsorship messaging.

“We’re excited to be working on another great project with our long-time partners at Wake Forest University,” says Corey Williams, Daktronics sales representative. “This new display will enhance the fan experience on game day at David F. Couch Ballpark and we can’t wait to see it up and running on opening day and beyond.”

Daktronics included a complete Show Control solution. This control system provides a combination of display control software, video processing, data integration and playback hardware that forms a powerful yet user-friendly production solution.

A content package will be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services to help bring the new display to life for Demon Deacon fans and student-athletes.
