Improved Audiovisual Experience for Baseball Headed to Ball State University from Daktronics

When Cardinals fans return to Ball Diamond at First Merchants Bank Complex in Muncie, Indiana, they will be greeted with a new audiovisual system from a partnership between Ball State University and Daktronics. The installation will take place in the coming months and feature a new LED video display and sound system for the 2024 baseball season.

“We are thankful for a very generous gift that will afford us a state-of-the-art video board which will enhance our player and fan experience,” says Ball State baseball head coach Rich Maloney. “This is a big step towards our dream of completing our stadium. This gift continues our progression in celebrating our great baseball tradition and the value our university puts on the future of Ball State Baseball.”

“As we work to enhance our baseball and softball facilities, the new video board at Ball Diamond will add an exciting feature to our baseball fan experience,” says Ball State Director of Athletics Jeff Mitchell. “We are grateful for the generosity of our donors and fans who support the vibrant future of our Ball State baseball program.”

The new outfield video display will measure 18 feet high by 32.5 feet wide and will feature a 15HD pixel layout to deliver image clarity and contrast with wide-angle visibility to appeal to fans throughout Ball Diamond. It will also feature environmental protection to ensure it operates in all forms of Indiana weather.

“It has been a privilege for the Daktronics team to work with the Ball State team to bring the Cardinals this state-of-the-art video board,” says Joe Hernandez, Daktronics sales representative. “Head Baseball Coach Rich Maloney and all the members of the Ball State Athletics Administration have been great partners as Daktronics assisted in giving a facelift to a beautiful college baseball facility. To be able to take Coach Maloney’s vision and bring it to life will be exciting to see for his student-athletes, the Ball State fans and the Muncie community.”

A Sportsound 1500HD audio system, which will be integrated with the video and scoring system, will also be added to the stadium. This system provides full-range sound reproduction and delivers clear, intelligible speech as it provides a powerful audio experience for fans.

In addition to the equipment installation, the Cardinals will also receive a custom content package to be produced and delivered by Daktronics Creative Services.
