Kansas City Current Welcome Supporters to New CPKC Stadium With 75-Ft. Wide Videoboard

The Kansas City Current’s CPKC Stadium officially opened its doors when the club hosted Portland Thorns FC on March 16. The matchup was a historic moment on many fronts: it was the first match inside a stadium dedicated to professional women’s soccer, the club’s first game in its new home featured a 75-foot-wide videoboard, and marked the first time the ABC network broadcasted a National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) match.

“The sold-out crowd for the inaugural match at CPKC stadium was undeniably a moving and powerful experience for women’s soccer fans who were present and watching from home,” says Jocelyn Monroe, KC Current’s Vice President of Marketing. “The team’s growing fanbase, game attendance and media coverage strongly validate the market potential in professional women’s soccer for future investors. The global interest in women’s sports is clearly on the rise, and KC Current is leading the charge.”

The fan energy inside the 11,500-seat stadium was electric throughout the opening game. The stands roared with excitement every time KC Current scored, and the videoboard above the field and XFB Outdoor LED panels along the perimeter of the pitch would light up with “GOAL!” The videoboard pumped up the fans with hype videos and highlight reels that drew them closer to the action on the soccer pitch. TVs and audio systems throughout the stadium created a world-class experience that fans will enjoy for seasons to come.

If the opening game serves any indication, KC Current fans will be in for a monumental 2024 season. With local supporters eager to experience gameday at CPKC Stadium, the team already sold out of season tickets for the 2024 regular season.

“With March being Women’s History Month, there could be no better time to celebrate the start of a new NWSL season and chapter in KC Current’s legacy in women’s sports,” says Sukhmani Mohta, Chief Marketing Officer, Samsung Electronics America. “Through immersive displays installed throughout the stadium, we hope to create unforgettable gameday experiences that will inspire the next generation of female trailblazers — whether their dream is to pursue a career on the soccer field or in the tech field.”
