SES Inks Capacity Deals With Ukraine’s 1+1 Media Group, CANAL+

SES S.A. has signed a capacity deal with 1+1 Media Group, one of the largest media holdings in Ukraine. The long-term agreement is for the lease of one transponder on the ASTRA 4A satellite positioned at 5 degrees East. The satellite provider also recently inked a long-term capacity agreement with CANAL+.

Seven of the Direct-to-Home channels serve the Ukrainian market: “1+1”, “2+2”, “TET”, “PLUSPLUS”, “Bigudi”, “Unian TV” and “Kvartal TV”. The other channel of the group, “1+1 International”, is oriented towards representatives of the Ukrainian diaspora in Europe, and is an international version of the popular “1+1” channel.

“1+1 Media Group is one of Ukraine’s major players in the market,” says Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer of SES. “We have already been hosting some of the group’s TV channels. This new agreement brings our long-standing relationship to a new level, and we are very much looking forward to delivering all of 1+1 Media Group’s channels to both Ukrainian and international audiences.”

“We have been relying on SES’s services over the past several years, and we are very pleased that our collaboration is expanding,” says Yaroslav Pakholchuk Chief Operational Officer of 1+1 Media Group, commenting on the agreement. “SES has extensive experience in the Ukrainian market, and a proven track record in delivering top quality services. We are confident in SES as a partner in bringing our channels to our audiences in Ukraine and abroad.”

SES and CANAL+ in Long-Term Capacity agreement
SES and CANAL+ Group confirmed the signature of a long-term, multi-year, multi-transponder framework agreement for SES satellite capacity in both France and Africa. The contract conditions are beneficial to both parties, and reflect the volume, extended duration and payment terms.

“CANAL+ Group is a long-standing partner for SES, and we are committed to support our customer’s strategy and business in established and emerging markets,” says Ferdinand Kayser, Chief Commercial Officer of SES. “We are pleased that this contract demonstrates CANAL+’s long-term commitment to satellite and to SES.”

“Our long-term partnership with SES is an important element in our strategy to grow our reach, adapt to new technologies (HD and UHD), and maximize efficiencies,” says Sylvain Géron, Chief Technology Officer, CANAL+ Group.
