NEP Broadcasting Goes the Distance

NEP Broadcasting overcame time, distance and weather to provide broadcast of three different and nearly simultaneous global sporting events from distant parts of the world over 15 days: the 15th Annual Asian Games live from
Doha,
Qatar; the 52nd Annual World Golf Championships from
Barbados and the World Wrestling Entertainment s A Holiday Tribute to the Troops in

Baghdad,
Iraq. Successfully capturing coverage for this comprehensive undertaking required outside of the box planning which began with NEP s solution in modern, flexible and fast assembly fly pack infrastructure for each event to compensate for having no access to mobile truck units at any of the event locations.

In kicking off coverage for the 15th Annual Asian Games for clients Host Broadcast Services (HBS) and IMG Media, NEP turned to its specialized division, NEP Visions, one of the largest independent outside broadcast facility companies in Europe, for producing 2,000 hours of game coverage during the 15-day international competition comprised of 45 participating countries vying in 39 sporting events from more than 40 venues. Its extensive broadcast included exclusive coverage of the opening and closing ceremonies, and all the athletic competitions in HDTV. Using fly packs, 95 tons of equipment were shipped from the US to Doha, all of which were run through 12 established production galleries spread throughout the games, and fed through four master control rooms three SD and one HD. Additionally, more than 80 members of NEP Visions award-winning team of digital architects and engineers were on hand to provide uninterrupted telecast of all the events.

While the Asian Games were underway, NEP s International Events Group, specializing in operational and engineering management of large scale global events, was in

Barbados providing live coverage of the 52nd Annual World Golf Championships for an estimated 200 million viewers. In order to capture the 28 nation, two-man team global golf tournament, IEG shipped nearly 45 tons via fly pack to St. James from the

US. In addition, eight of NEP s core engineers were on location to manage and maintain all onsite equipment throughout the five day event. To overcome the challenge of using a definitive amount of equipment for generating 12 hours of U.S. coverage on ABC and ESPN Networks, while simultaneously covering event highlights for broadcasts in 140 countries, one main production gallery was established for overall tournament coverage with an additional smaller production area for international broadcast. Protecting the equipment from the event s outdoor elements, tropic terrain and typical weather, all gear was protected through the use of tents.

Tackling its final global event during the 15-day span, NEP Broadcasting tabbed IEG and NEP Supershooters, world leading provider of state-of-the-art mobile broadcast facilities, to cover World Wrestling Entertainment s A Holiday Tribute to the Troops. Marking its fourth year in providing the WWE with television broadcast equipment for this annual event and its sixth year as WWE s exclusive hardware equipment and remote facilities provider, NEP worked with WWE technical personnel in assembling, configuring and packaging teleproduction equipment from NEP Broadcasting s

Pittsburgh,
PA headquarters via fly pack. Combating the desert s dust and unpredictable weather, the equipment was protected using rain covers and tents.

Having dedicated substantial time and effort to effectively generate the multi global event endeavor, NEP Broadcasting Executive Vice President Dan Wilhelm says, NEP Broadcasting has always been regarded as a worldwide leader in television production and mobile facilities; however, having the opportunity to successfully deliver on these three global projects has broadened NEP s capabilities as a global network solutions company.
