CBS Sports to Showcase ‘Golf … PGA Of America Style’ May 5

The PGA of
America will showcase the game of golf in a CBS Sports special, Golf… PGA of
America Style,
Saturday, May 5, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. ET.
The
program, hosted by Bill Macatee, opens with the 54th PGA Merchandise Show in
Orlando,
Fla.,
conducted in January, and an event that continues a tradition as the annual
largest forum in the golf industry. More than 45,000 industry professionals
representing 79 countries reviewed the latest in golf from equipment to fashion
to technology to travel and more.
The CBS
Special also focuses on Play Golf
America, The PGA of America-led
industry-wide growth of the game campaign. Viewers can learn how to register
and participate in monthly events nationwide.
Play Golf
America events
highlighted in the special include PGA Free Lesson Month in May, American
Express Women’s Golf Week in June, and Take Your Daughter to the Course Week in
July.
PGA
Professionals will be featured in Play Golf
America segments, along with
sharing their expertise on the latest golf equipment at the PGA Merchandise
Show. The PGA Professionals include: Suzy Whaley of Farmington, Conn., Renee
Powell of East Canton, Ohio; Northern California PGA President Sue Fiscoe of
Modesto, Calif.; Defending PGA Professional National Champion Ron Philo Jr. of
Westchester, N.Y.; Middle Atlantic PGA President Bob Baldassari of
Fredericksburg, Va.; past National Champion Mike Small of Champaign, Ill.; and
2006 PGA Teacher of the Year Bill Forrest of Scottsdale, Ariz.
Additionally,
PGA and LPGA Tour Professionals Jim Furyk, Greg Norman, Nancy Lopez and Annika
Sorenstam will provide their comments on selected golf equipment.
The PGA
Merchandise Show also honored The PGA of America’s 13 national award winners,
headed by PGA Golf Professional of the Year Jim Manthis of
Coon
Rapids,
Minn., and Ernie Sabayrac
Award Winner Ron McPherson of
Scottsdale,
Ariz. During the CBS Special, the
award winners will share their expertise.
Other CBS
Special segments include the PGA’s Professional Golf Management Program; the
Global Impact of Golf, a travel feature and the inaugural PGA McGladrey Team
Championship, which kicks off this spring and culminates in the National
Championship, Sept. 10-12, at Pinehurst (N.C.) Resort.
