JVC gains ProHD support from Avid, Apple Canopus

JVC’s
ProHD format finally has a complete 720p/50 workflow thanks to new efforts by
Apple, Avid and

Canopus
to allow for ProHD material to be edited in the native 720p format.

Canopus

is the only system that can
currently work in 720p/50 while Apple is showing a technology demonstration on
its stand and Avid is expected to offer support in 2008.

The
support of 720p/50 on the editing front will help JVC Professional Europe
continue it’s upward climb with the ProHD format. “If you visit the EBU booth
and look at the demonstration of 720p/50 vs. 1080i and 1080p you’ll see it
vindicates our decision to use progressive,” said Ian Scott, JVC Professional
Europe director of pro video.

Enhancing
the ProHD line is a key initiative. New this year is an HD camera control unit
that can also be hooked up to an ENG camera, bringing CCU functionality to
handheld units. Other features include iris indication and event memory that
can store up to five settings for different shooting scenarios. A new and
larger viewfinder is also available, making it easier than ever to attain sharper
HD focus.

“”The
ProHD product range and community has grown so much since its introduction,”
said Oliver Helfrich, JVC Professional Europe marketing manager,

Germany. “And
we now have a wide range of accessories for everything from film making to
electronic news gathering.”
