YES Productions Selects Fujinon Lenses For HD2 Truck

YES
Productions has acquired a complement of Fujinon HD lenses for the company’s
latest 53-foot HD production truck, the “HD2.” The truck was upgraded from SD
to HD with a new lens package that includes one XA101x8.9ESM super telephoto
field lens with image stabilization and four XA88x8.83ESM telephoto lenses. This
latest purchase brings the total number of Fujinon HD lenses owned by YES
Productions to 21.

The new
53-foot mobile unit will also travel with an additional 3 HA23x7.6ERM
high-performance ENG lenses and eight Ikegami HDK-79 HDTV portable cameras.
Four Fujinon HA13x4.5ERM Super Wide Angle lenses will travel with YES
Productions’ mobile truck, the “HD1,” which covers the Professional Bull Riding
Series.

YES
Productions, based in New Orleans,
LA, rolled out the company’s
second HD unit in late October of this year. The HD lens selection was
clear cut, according to YES Productions vice president and general manager, Jim
Moriarty.

“YES
Productions has enjoyed a longstanding relationship with Fujinon, spanning more
than two decades,” Moriarty says. “That is a testament to their outstanding
quality as well as a high level of service that comes from Fujinon. Production
staff and technicians alike who are out there every week say they love the
crispness and color imagery Fujinon lenses deliver.”

YES
Productions has relied on Fujinon lenses while shooting the Professional Bull
Riding Series for Versus Network. The company purchased Fujinon wide angle
lenses specifically for the PBR series.

“The key
when shooting bull riding is to get down in there, close to that bull,” Moriarity
explains. “The wide angle field of view the Fujinon lens provides is huge. It
captures so brilliantly the moments before that animal is about ready to jump
out of the chute you can practically feel the air move when they snort in the
gate.”

While
getting that close to a one ton animal makes for great pictures, it also has
its risks and drawbacks.

“We’ve lost
lenses by getting too close to the action, but Fujinon is always there for us,”
Moriarty says. “They provide loaner lenses while they quickly repair the
damaged lenses.”

With two
mobile HD units, YES covers the NBA’s New Orleans Hornets, Louisiana State
University (LSU) college football games, and more than 100 other college and
high school sports events broadcast annually by Cox Sports. YES Productions is a
wholly-owned subsidiary of WYES-TV, New
Orleans.
