Call For Entries: Global Media Awards for College Sports

This June, for the first time, college athletic departments
will have the opportunity to have their outstanding video content formally
recognized, as the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (NATAS)
and the Sports Video Group (SVG) present the Global
Media Awards for College Sports. The first annual awards for outstanding
achievement in college sports television and video production, the GMAs for
College Sports will allow college athletic departments to compete separately
from media companies and technology providers. All submissions must be received
by April 10 through the Awards Website: http://www.globalmediaawards.org/collegesports/

“The Global Media Awards for College Sports gives us an
opportunity to encourage excellence in all aspects of advancing the creation,
production and distribution of college sports content,” said Dennis Swanson,
Honorary Chairman, Global Media Awards for College Sports and President, Fox
Television Stations Group Operations, “and to honor the men and women whose
career achievements over the years have been so integral to college sports.”

Finalists for each of the 10 categories will be announced in
the weeks leading up to the Sports Video Group’s College Sports Video Summit (CSVS)
in Atlanta, Georgia. The event will help
college sports professionals understand the technology requirements and
business models associated with building a sports-video-production
infrastructure for broadcast, Internet, and mobile distribution. The winners of
the Global Media Awards for College Sports will be announced at CSVS with a
presentation and reception on the evening of June 9, 2009. Click here for more information and to register for CSVS.

“College sports is a multibillion-dollar industry, involving
more than 100,000 productions each and every year,” says Tom Buffolano, CSVS
Conference Chairman and former VP and GM of Digital Programming and Production
at CSTV/CBS College Sports. “Partnering with an organization like NATAS just
elevates the focus on college production to a new level and a fitting addition
to our inaugural College Sports Video Summit.”

“The growth of video produced within University Athletic
Departments has been significant over the past few years and with the constant
improvement of technology and infrastructure, the production quality has proven
to be very innovative and creative,” said Joe Castiglione, Director of
Athletics, University of Oklahoma. “Working with our media partners to deliver
the best possible product for fans and alumni, no matter what size the screen
or where in the world they happen to be, is critical to our overall
success. I believe the time is right to recognize the best in this
emerging and important part of college sports.”
