Floorman Puts Video Monitoring in Palm of the Hand

By Ken Kerschbaumer

BAL Broadcast at NAB is displaying the Floorman, a new video-monitoring system that puts critical monitoring literally into the palm of the hand of a news or sports professional.

Priced at $40,000 for the complete system, Floorman delivers up to four camera feeds to a handheld touchscreen device that has a 7-in. screen. Signals are delivered via COFDM, and the user can select one of the four signals for full-screen viewing.

The system also has potential as a way for sports officials to monitor replays and other action from the sideline or baseline, since there is no limit to the number of handheld monitors that can be operated simultaneously. Multiple units can also be tied together to deliver more than four channels.
