Japan’s Leading TV Providers to Offer 3D Programming

Two of Japan’s top satellite and cable broadcasters are currently working on 3D programming that is expected to hit the airwaves as early as this summer, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sky Perfect TV is set to meet with production companies this month to explore plans for 3D movies and sports programming for its existing channels with hopes of creating specialized 3D channels in the near future. Sony, which has been unveiling 3D TV sets and 3D technology all week at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, owns 8.4% of Sky Perfect.

Jupiter Telecommunications (J:COM) is also expected to announce plans concerning 3D programming in the near future.

Between the two of them, Sky Perfect and J:COM have nearly 7 million total subscribers.
