Guess What Has Become the Fastest Adopted TV Technology Since VCRs in the 1980s

According to The New York Times, the technology that’s become the fastest adoption of a TV technology since VCRs swept the nation in the 1980s, is one that’s actually increased viewing time.

The techology is high-definition TV sets. One added benefit is that  those owning HD sets watc about 3 percent more prime-time programming than people with standard TV sets, the article says.

The acceleration of HD viewing took off in late 2008 as the prices of such sets declined, and now about 52 percent of of U.S. households watch TV with HD equipment. That’s especially helping networks such as ESPN and HBO, and others that appeal to sports and film fans, the articles says.

Still, the story says that a sort of HD-divide is appearing, with many local stations failing to upgrade to HD because of the expense.
