The announcement was made today by Ed Delaney, FOX Sports Executive Vice President, Operations, to whom Davies reports. Davies assumes the position vacated by 20-year FOX Sports veteran Jerry Steinberg who recently retired, but continues to serve FOX Sports as a consultant.

Prior to his promotion, Davies served FOX Sports as Vice President of Field and Technical Operations under Steinberg, overseeing live broadcast remote production for FOX Sports events including NFL, MLB, NASCAR, college football and college basketball as well as special events in the U.S. and abroad.

“It’s with great pleasure that we announce Mike’s promotion,” said Delaney.  “He has been a tremendous asset to FOX Sports over the last eight years, and this is clearly well deserved.  Mike is well respected throughout the industry, though he does have big shoes to fill.  Jerry Steinberg is an icon in this business, and his everyday presence will be missed.”

With over two decades of operational experience, Davies specializes in technical production and innovation for large sporting events. Davies coordinated the technical management of Super Bowls XLII, XLV and XLVIII on FOX, including a multi-level 40-by-40 foot set in the heart of New York City’s Times Square for Super Bowl XLVIII, the most-watched TV event in U.S. history. Davies has also been instrumental in the development of Ground Cam, a small subterranean HD camera used during NASCAR and MLB telecasts; Gyro-Cam, a mounted stabilized rotating in-car camera; FOX Super Zoom 4K camera; and Phantom Cam. Davies also supervised the remotes for the first NFL regular-season game from Wembley Stadium, as well as the special FOX NFL SUNDAY pregame shows broadcast live from Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan in 2009, Qatar in 2010 and Seoul in 2011.

Before joining FOX Sports in 2006 as Director of Field Operations, Davies was with HBO Sports for 10 years. In his last position there as Director of East Coast Production, he worked on many HBO Sports documentaries including “Where Have You Gone, Joe DiMaggio?”, “Do You Believe in Miracles? – The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team” and “Howard Cosell: Telling It Like It Is”. He also coordinated operations and the technical management for HBO’s boxing and pay-per-view events. Prior to his time with HBO, he worked for King World Productions.

Davies has won several Sports Emmy Awards for his work with FOX Sports and HBO including Outstanding Technical Team Remote for NFL, MLB and NASCAR coverage and long form sports programming.

Born in New York City, Davies grew up in Ivinghoe, UK and Chatham, N.J. He graduated from the University of Colorado Boulder with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Production Management. A devoted baseball and racing fan, he currently resides in Los Angeles, Calif.
