Dome Productions Launches new “Unite”
Dome announced the launch of its newest mobile production truck, Unite, a purpose-built production facility designed to support unilateral productions. Its versatility will be pressed into service as the primary B-unit in conjunction with Major League Baseball International’s (MLBI) coverage of the 2104 post-season.
International broadcast teams from Latin America and Asia along with ESPN International and Fox Deportes will be working inside Unite which will offer them the most up-to-date work stations in the mobile business.
Customized to each broadcaster’s individual needs, from basic to complex, Unite will resemble a rolling IBC allowing these partners the ability to customize the MLBI produced “World Feed” for their specific markets including the use of “cue ball” cameras at their in stadium broadcast positions. In addition, Unite’s space allows MLBI’s transmission team ample work space to house all encoding gear as well as areas for sales teams to monitor the insertion of five, country-specific virtual signage paths, QC control, commentary control, as well as engineering.
“We envisioned a truck like this and since we had a brand new double ‘expando’ trailer available, it just made sense to build it,” said Mary Ellen Carlyle, Senior Vice-President and General Manager, Dome Productions. “We are thrilled that MLB supports our vision and agreed to launch it during this year’s baseball playoffs. We see many other uses for it in the months ahead.”
Unite, will be tied in to Dome Atlantic which will be MLBI A-unit. It will make its behind-the-scenes debut during the American League Championship Series, starting in Baltimore. Once Unite moves to the World Series, rights-holders will sample its considerable capabilities. The GVG Trinix Router and Adam Intercom will tie into the A-unit to form Unite’s backbone. Program and individual camera feeds from the Atlantic, in addition to each unilateral broadcaster’s camera, will be routed to each pod and displayed on multiviewers. Intercom systems from both trucks will be tied together to facilitate communications for all the separate MLBI units.
“Over the years our production of the World Feed has grown in terms of rights-holders who are now seeing the advantages of being on site for the post-season,” said Russell Gabay, Vice President and Executive Producer, Major League Baseball International. “Quite frankly, our A-unit is where we need to be as we have a great relationship with our U.S. network partners in the sharing of facilities, which help us supplement our own coverage cameras. Dome’s idea of using Unite to solve the issue of having to increase our B-unit size to accommodate the growing demands of our partners was timed perfectly. These rights-holders are the same ones that hold rights to other marquee sporting events and they are used to top-of-the-line facilities and I believe they will see this in this new truck.”
