Your Guide to the SVG Summit: Making the Most of It

The 10th annual SVG Summit, to be held at the New York Hilton next Monday and Tuesday, is already shaping up to be bigger and better than any SVG event ever. There will be more sessions, more technology showcases, more attendees, and as a result, more of a need than ever to plan out your schedule. That’s one of the reasons we offer this handy overview.SVGSummit2015slider-01Even before you enter the doors of the New York Hilton be sure to visit www.thesvgsummit.com to check out the wide range of activities that will take place. Monday, for example, kicks off with five workshop tracks in the morning followed by two in the afternoon. In addition the main production tracks in the Trianon Ballroom and the NewsTech Forum will also begin on Monday afternoon.

Herewith are some top tips to make sure you get all you need out of this year’s Summit.

In the Beginning…
First things first: pick up your badge on the third floor (registration begins at 9 a.m. on Monday and 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday). Even if you are attending one of the workshop tracks on the second floor you must first pick up your badge on the third floor and if you have already registered your badge will be on site. If you have not already registered please send an email to Andrew Lippe ([email protected]) by Sunday evening to make your registration process much easier. Please note that all late registrations are subject to approval.

And regardless of whether or not you are pre-registered we recommend you get to the registration table as early as possible to make sure you beat the last-minute rush.

Okay, so you have your badge in hand. Now what? If it is Monday morning feel free to join one of our workshop tracks (or jump from one to the next). There are some “SVG Classic” tracks like the Remote Engineering Workshop, DTV Audio Group, Women’s Sports Media Initiative, and SVG College New York. New this year? A Cloud Workshop that will feature two case studies (one from MLB Network and one from NASCAR Productions) and a really great opportunity to learn from some of your fellow professionals.

Monday afternoon continues with the Sports Asset Management and Storage Workshop, the Venue Production Workshop, and the Production Sessions on the third floor. Also be sure to check out the schedule for the NewsTech Forum that will be held on the second floor.

Join us for the Opening Night Reception at the SVG Summit!

It’s a Wrap! (Day One)
Monday afternoon we conclude the activities with our Opening Night Reception in the Technology Showcase area on the third floor. The Showcase Area (click here for a complete list of showcase vendors) will officially open at 4 p.m. with the reception running from 5-7 p.m. Be sure to spend a couple of hours networking with your friends and colleagues as well as checking out some of the latest tools of the trade. And trust us…with 80 showcases there will be plenty to see!

Following our reception it’s time to head out and experience New York City in all its Holiday splendor (and with mild temperatures expected you won’t need to worry about getting chilled to the bone).

The Main Event

Day two of the SVG Summit will feature a wide range of panel discussions covering all aspects of sports production.

When the sun rises on Tuesday morning it will signal the beginning of what is arguably the most important day on the SVG Calendar: day two of the SVG Summit. All of the energy will be focused on the third floor, with panel discussions and keynotes taking place in the Trianon Ballroom on the third floor alongside the Technology Showcases.

Highlights of the day include a keynote conversation between ESPN’s Jeremy Schaap and Bob Bowman, MLB, President, Business and Media as well as an inside look at the plans CBS Sports has for Super Bowl 50. And, honestly, there are no low-lights during the day as we take a look at the business of sports production from all angles: technical, financial, and artistic. Simply put, you won’t want to miss it.

More Networking Than Ever!
Over the years one of the consistent requests from attendees was to provide more time for pure networking. This year we have finally figured out how to meet that request, as Tuesday will feature two 45-minute breaks as well as an hour-long networking lunch. Be sure to make the most of the two 45-minute breaks and spend them in the Technology Showcase Area while the lunch is the perfect chance to sit down with your friends and colleagues.

That’s a Wrap! (Seriously…it’s Over)
Day two will end at 4:30 p.m. (Technology Showcases close at 3 p.m.) and the entire third floor area is transformed from the SVG Summit to the Sports Broadcasting Hall of Fame. For those who have tickets (the event is completely sold out) be sure to join us at 5:30 for the beginning of the HOF reception. Doors will open at 6:40 and the event will begin promptly at 7:00. And if you are attending, please remember that there is no dinner during the ceremony so be sure to eat up during the reception.
