SVG Rebrands Women’s Networking Group as SVGW
The Sports Video Group is pleased to announce that the Women’s Sports Media Initiative has been rebranded SVGW. The new brand, which was unveiled during the group’s annual meeting at the SVG Summit in December, more accurately reflects the membership and mission of SVG’s long-time women’s networking group.
“For nearly 10 years, WSMI provided a space for women in the sports-broadcasting industry to share experiences, discuss the latest industry trends, and learn from one another,” says Karen Hogan Ketchum, director, SVGW. “But WSMI was a women’s networking group that SVG supported; SVGW will be the networking group for the amazing women of the SVG community. I’m very excited to see what this group of women can accomplish for our industry.”
Founded in 2009, SVGW aims to enhance the role of women in the creation, production, and distribution of sports content. Its members work for sports leagues, teams, television networks, technology companies, and startups, focusing on the business and technology behind sports production.
In addition to the unveiling of the new SVGW brand, the group’s annual meeting on Dec. 11 included a Women’s Leadership Roundtable panel discussion that featured EVS CEO Muriel de Lathouwer, CBS Sports EVP, Operations and Engineering, Patty Power, and Undefined Creative founder/Creative Director Maria Rapetskaya. More than 100 women (and men) attended the meeting, during which the three leaders discussed their career trajectories, industry observations, and future goals.
On April 10, SVGW will host its annual networking lunch at the 2018 NAB Show. Details about this lunch will be announced soon.
