2019 African Beach Games Selects The Olympic Channel as Live Stream Destination

The Olympic Channel will present live online coverage of “Sal 2019”, the inaugural 2019 Africa beach Games, which take place June 14-23, in Cape Verde.

Sal 2019 takes place on the beach of Santa Maria, Sal Island, and will be the largest sporting event to be held within the small island country of Cape Verde which is located west of Senegal in the North Atlantic Ocean.

Approximately 1,000 athletes from 54 countries from the African continent will compete in 11 sports including athletics, 3×3 basketball, beach handball, beach soccer, beach tennis, beach volleyball, sea rowing, freestyle football, karate kata, kiteboarding, and open water swimming.

“We are excited to stream our first event from Capo Verde to showcase their premier event to a global audience,” said Mark Parkman, general manager of the IOC’s global Olympic Channel. “The African Beach Games are a great way to provide additional exposure to these growing sports and introduce new sports to our audiences.”

In addition to the competition, the African Beach Games will have a strong cultural component comprised of local music, food, dance, and national and African products while also raising awareness about sustainability and ocean protection.
