DFB Taps TRACAB for Extensive Player Positioning Data for German National Teams

The German Football Association (Deutscher Fußball-Bund, or DFB) will use TRACAB (a Chyron Brand) technology to collect position data from matches for all senior national teams, U-teams, and the annual DFB-Pokal competition. Leveraging video from camera systems installed at match venues, and using a state-of-the-art mobile tracking system at un-installed venues, TRACAB will capture data on player positioning multiple times per second with centimeter accuracy. DFB will use this data to analyze player and team performance in a much more comprehensive and consistent manner.

“The DFB national teams have been using position data for several years, and thanks to our collaboration with TRACAB, we’re now able to standardize data sets from across the Bundesliga, the DFB Cup, and our national teams,” says Christofer Clemens, head of scouting, match analysis, and diagnosis for DFB. “This means that, for the first time, we can carry out comparable evaluations across all of our national teams and better classify and control the development of our national players.”

Data captured by TRACAB reflects player position at any given moment, and enables calculation of other valuable metrics, including player speed, distance run, and other aspects of play, to facilitate objective team analysis, and reveal deeper insights into individual play, and optimize physical and tactical performance for both teams and athletes.
