SVG Summit 2022: On ‘State of the Industry’ Panel, Leaders Outline Their Biggest Changes in the Business Over the Past Three Years

Leaders from the NBA, MLB Network, Bally Sports, and Sky Deutschland addresses what's shaping live production

It’s common said that so much has changed in the sports production industry since the emergence of the pandemic in the beginning of 2020. But what exactly has changed? During a State of the Industry panel discussion at the 2022 SVG Summit earlier this week, key leaders from across the sports media business (all SVG Executive Committee members) shared their thoughts on the biggest changes they’ve seen in the industry.

Bally Sports, SVP and Executive Producer Michael Connelly says the challenges of the past three years has shown who can handle change.

NBA Entertainment’s EVP, Media Operations and Technology Steve Hellmuth says image quality on the live broadcast is the biggest improvement.

Sky Deutschland’s SVP, Continental Production Operations Alessandro Reitano points to technologies that have helped his company create content more flexibly than before.

MLB Network’s SVP, Operations and Engineering Susan Stone is amazed at how many more risks productions are willing to take to build their show.

This session was hosted at the 2022 SVG Summit on December 13, 2022 and was moderated by Mike Davies, Fox Sports, SVP, Technical and Field Operations. Davies is also the current Chairman of SVG.

All main-stage sessions from the SVG Summit will be available in full on SVG PLAY in the coming weeks. Also, stay tuned to Sportsvideo.org for full video recaps, podcasts, and further coverage of the 2022 SVG Summit in the coming days.
