SMT Adds Graphics Insert Package for SRX’s Third Season

SMT continues its partnership with the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) to provide real-time broadcast graphics and production support for SRX’s third season.

In 2021, SMT teamed up with SRX for the launch of the throwback series. Aired on CBS, SRX featured retired champions climbing back into stock cars to take on rising stars on short, dirt tracks across six hot, sticky Saturday summer nights.

July 13th marks the launch of SRX’s third season, with SMT still behind the technology wheel as the sole provider of scoring, running order, tracking, telemetry, heart rate data, driver pointers, and insert graphics for the six-week season. Now airing on ESPN, the races are moving to six consecutive Thursday nights in a revival of “ESPN Thursday Night Thunder,” the 1980s grassroots racing programming that launched the career of SRX co-owner Tony Stewart.

SMT modifies 16 cars (12 identical stock cars plus four backups) with GPS vectors, similar to SMT’s setup for NASCAR races. The vectors use antennas mounted on the roof of each car to track position and generate speed data for each driver, calculating speed, throttle and brakes, laps led and rank. The data is integrated into SMT-designed graphics that include dynamic leaderboards, lower-thirds, slabs, full-screens, and pointers. SMT also provides live heartrate from the drivers for each event.

“SMT has been hand-in-hand with SRX since its first heartbeat, bringing our decades of racing technology expertise to help elevate the Superstar Racing Experience,” says Lee Brinson, VP, Client Development, SMT. “This year, SRX has entrusted us with the design of SRX’s graphics package, empowering us with even more flexibility to inject telemetry and tracking data for the fans watching these thrilling races.”
