Monumental Sports & Entertainment Readies to Relaunch NBC Sports Washington as Monumental Sports Network

Execs share the creative, business, and technological challenges and opportunities that have come with the plans

A new brand name will enter the regional sports network vernacular next month as NBC Sports Washington will rebrand to Monumental Sports Network.

Monumental Sports & Entertainment — the owner of the Washington Wizards of the NBA, Washington Mystics of the WNBA, the Washington Capitals of the NHL, and Capital One Arena — is set for the big change following a significant investment in what will become the former NBC Sports Washington (the RSN was fully acquired from Comcast in 2022). In addition, Monumental plans to create its own local sports streaming app, which it plans to launch this fall.

What will their new production facility look like and how might game broadcasts, in-market live-streaming, and alternative feeds evolve for fans in the DMV? Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s President of Media & New Enterprises Zach Leonsis; GM, Network Friday Abernethy; and Chief Technology Officer Charlie Myers discuss the future in a panel discussion with SVG’s Chief Editor Jason Dachman.
