“Sorolla a través de la luz”, With Production by GRUP MEDIAPRO, Arrives at the Fundación Bancaja de Valencia

“Sorolla a través de la luz”, the exhibition combining original work by Joaquín Sorolla, a large sensory room and a virtual reality experience, opens its doors as of October 5, 2023 at the Fundación Bancaja in Valencia, where it runs until February 18, 2024. The exhibition, organized in co-production with Light Art Exhibitions, the Sorolla Museum and the Fundación Museo Sorolla in association with the Generalitat Valenciana, features technological production and virtual reality experience by GRUP MEDIAPRO.

After the successful run at the Palacio Real in Madrid where it became one of the season’s most popular exhibitions with more than 180,000 visitors, “Sorolla a través de la luz ” now travels to Valencia, complete with an enhanced selection of original works bringing together 45 canvases dated between 1890 and 1920 from collections of the Museo Sorolla, Fundación Museo Sorolla, the Hispanic Society of America, the Carmen Thyssen-Bornemisza Collection, the ABANCA Art Collection and the Esther Koplowitz Collection, as well as some twenty private collections and the Fundación Bancaja itself. The collection of works includes pieces that are presented for the first time in this exhibition, or which have rarely been seen by the public, as well as some of the artist’s masterpieces such as “¡Triste herencia!”, “Después del baño”, “La bata rosa” and “La vuelta de la pesca”.

The exhibition offers visitors a rare opportunity to contemplate the artist’s original work, combined with a renewed sensory journey through paintings, photographs and personal documents belonging to Sorolla housed in a large space which features multiple LED screens covering over 215m², and the surround effect of an original soundtrack. Videoreport (GRUP MEDIAPRO) was responsible for the installation of the screens and the sound engineering for the exhibition spaces.

In addition, the culmination of “Sorolla a través de la luz ” is a multi-user, virtual reality experience that will take the visitor back in time to that of Sorolla: more than 30 visitors will simultaneously move, as if they were in a time tunnel, back to the period of the Valencian painter. This VR experience was developed by VISYON (GRUP MEDIAPRO), with the collaboration of the Virtual Production unit, Rez (GRUP MEDIAPRO) in charge of the adaptation of the entire space.

The exhibition is part of the special program to mark the occasion of the centenary of the death of Joaquín Sorolla in 2023, declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP) by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and takes place within the framework of the tenth anniversary of the new Fundación Bancaja.
