College Hoops Tip-Off 2023: Fox Sports Flying High With 330-Game Slate, Record 13 Women’s Games on Fox, and Big East and Pac-12 Tourneys

After closing out last year’s college hoops season on a technological high note by flying a drone inside Madison Square Garden at the Big East Men’s Tournament, Fox Sports is looking to continue that momentum on the hardcourt this season. Most notably, the majority of Fox Sports’ 333-game slate across its networks and digital platforms will be produced in 1080p this year.

“New venues added into the schedule, the volume, and fast pace of college basketball will always be the biggest challenge to work through,” says Sarita Meinking, executive director, field operations, Fox Sports. “It’s a full schedule this year with 333 games and lots of good matchups, so it should be a great season.”

Fox Sports’ tipped-off their college basketball season with exclusive whip-around coverage of seven Big East contests on Monday, Nov. 6

In order to handle that haul of games, Fox Sports is maximizing its Home Run Productions (HRPs) this year with roughly 200 games being produced out of control rooms in L.A. and Charlotte. Fox Sports is again working with long-time partners Mobile TV Group, Game Creek Video, and Rush Media to provide facilities for its onsite productions.

Fox Sports’ season tipped off on Monday with exclusive whip-around coverage showing live look-ins of seven Big East contests with limited commercials during the Big East Opening Night Tip Off on FS1.

Fox’s 2023-24 schedule shifts in December, when its Fox Primetime Hoops slate tips off with a Dec. 9 special doubleheader on Fox followed by several high-profile men’s matchups throughout the season and at least two women’s games. These games will typically feature six game-coverage cameras plus several robos and Marshall POVs.

Fox Sports’ women’s hoops slate features thirteen games on Fox, a record high for regular season women’s college basketball games on any broadcast network.

College hoops will also play a major role in Fox Sports’ perennially packed Thanksgiving week programming slate, including matchups from the Acrisure Classic, Men’s and Women’s Fort Myers Tip-Off Tournament, and inaugural Rady Children’s Invitational on Fox and FS1.

In March, Fox Sports will once again serve as the exclusive home of the Big East men’s and women’s tournaments and will also televise one quarterfinal and one semifinal from the men’s Pac-12 tournament. On Saturday, March 16, the final matchups of the Men’s Big East and Pac-12 tournaments will be featured in a doubleheader on the Fox broadcast network.

“You will see an increase in women’s games on the network and overall women’s games,” says Meinking. “Our Fox network games have increased over last year. We have some solid coverage over Thanksgiving this year as well as our Primetime Saturdays are back starting on December 9 for 15 straight weeks. We will have the Pac-12 Tournament back again this year along with the Big East Men’s & Women’s Tournament. We are still in the planning phase for the Big East Tournament, but [are excited about] what’s coming.”
