Monumental Sports Network Partners with Four Local Universities and HBCU GO to Broadcast College Basketball

As the college basketball season tips off this week, Monumental Sports Network announces partnerships with George Washington, Howard, Richmond, and Towson to air live college basketball games on the network during the upcoming season. Monumental’s 2023-24 college basketball slate features 50 games, including 21 women’s games. That total represents the most college basketball games to air on the network during a single season.

More than three million households in the network’s local footprint can watch DMV-area teams play on the network over the coming months. Local college basketball fans with a pay tv subscription can watch games on Monumental Sports Network on their tv and will also be able to steam games at www.monumentalsportsnetwork.com or by downloading the Monumental Sports Network app on iOS, Android, Apple TV, Roku, and Amazon Fire TV and using an eligible TV Everywhere log-in.

“Monumental Sports Network is the best place for D.C.-area basketball fans to watch live, local hoops at all levels,” says Friday Abernethy, General Manager, Monumental Sports Network. “Our region has a rich college basketball tradition and we are proud to showcase several exciting programs on our network this year.”

As part of Monumental’s college basketball coverage, Monumental Sports Network has also partnered with HBCU GO to air more than 20 taped men’s and women’s basketball games from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), including local Bowie State University.

“We are proud to use our network platform to elevate HBCU athletics and provide their fan bases an opportunity to watch their favorite teams in action,” says Caitlin Mangum, Vice President, Content & Programming, Monumental Sports Network.

In August 2022, Monumental Sports & Entertainment acquired full ownership of NBC Sports Washington from Comcast/NBC Universal. The station was rebranded Monumental Sports Network this September with a new slate of programming. The network is the exclusive local television media rights holder for the NHL’s Washington Capitals, NBA’s Washington Wizards, and WNBA’s Washington Mystics and also boasts the most comprehensive regional collegiate Division II-and-under and regional high-school sports programming in the greater Washington, D.C. metro area.

Monumental Sports Network’s college basketball coverage begins on Sunday, November 12 at 7:00 p.m. ET as Towson men’s basketball plays Robert Morris.
