Damon Phillips Takes on Expanded Role as SVP, NBC Sports Digital and Emerging Business at NBC Sports

NBC Sports announces that Damon Phillips will take on an expanded role as Senior Vice President, NBC Sports Digital and Emerging Business.  He has served as SVP, Strategic Initiatives and Head of Diversity and Inclusion since November 2020.

Phillips reports to NBC Sports President Rick Cordella, and will oversee a portfolio that includes NBCSports.com, Sports Betting, Fantasy Sports, NBC Sports Audio, NBC Sports Podcast Network and college name. image and likeness (NIL). He will also serve as the DEI executive champion for NBC Sports.

Phillips joined NBC Sports in 2018 as General Manager of NBC Sports Washington. Under his leadership, the network became an innovator in sports betting and digital media. NBC Sports Washington developed the NFL’s and NBA’s first live predictive-gaming telecasts.

“Damon has long been a valued member of the NBC Sports executive team and has been at the forefront of our NIL business,” says Cordella. “By expanding his role to include our digital, betting, radio, and podcast properties, we can leverage his skill set to create a higher return on investment and develop growth opportunities.”

Prior to joining NBC Sports, Phillips spent a decade in executive level digital media roles at ESPN. Phillips served as VP of ESPN3 and WatchESPN, VP of Digital Direct to Consumer Services, and VP of Technical Product Management.  He has also held roles at USA Football, DIRECTV, Disney and the NBA.

Phillips earned a football scholarship to Stanford University and graduated with honors. He has been named to CableFAX’s Most Influential Minorities in Cable list, and was named one of Sports Business Journal’s prestigious “Forty Under 40” honoree.
