Professional Women’s Hockey League Inks Broadcast Deals With TSN and RDS in Canada, Multiple RSNs in U.S.

The Professional Women’s Hockey League (PWHL) will provide fans with comprehensive live coverage of all 72 games during its historic inaugural season. The league has announced national broadcast partnerships in Canada with CBC / Radio-Canada, TSN and RDS, and Sportsnet, and regional deals in the United States with MSG Networks, NESN, and Bally Sports North.

“The visibility offered across our broadcast and streaming schedule is unprecedented in women’s hockey and reinforces the growing interest in our sport,” says Stan Kasten, PWHL Advisory Board member. “Accessibility of PWHL games throughout our inaugural season is a giant win for fans everywhere. We felt it was a priority to engage a magnitude of committed partners on a variety of consistent platforms.”

The PWHL season opener was available to Canadian viewers live on CBC, TSN, and Sportsnet national television feeds, streamed on CBC Gemca, the CBC Sports app for iOS and Android devices, TSN.ca, the TSN app, and Sportsnet+. French-language coverage will appear on ICI TOU.TV. The PWHL season opener was available to United States regional TV viewers with MSG Networks and NESN.

All subsequent PWHL regular-season games are available to Canadian viewers on coverage divided across TSNCBC, and Sportsnet which includes linear television and streaming on TSN+CBC Gemca, the CBC Sports app, and Sportsnet+. Additional games will be announced pending NHL and AHL playoff schedules. French-language coverage of all Montreal games will be split between RDS and Radio-Canada, ICI TOU.TV.

“The launch of the PWHL is a historic moment for the game of hockey and we are incredibly proud to partner with the league, working together to showcase these elite athletes for a national audience, and inspiring the next generation of players,” says Shawn Redmond, VP, Bell Media Sports. “With the addition of live games and extensive coverage across all TSN and RDS platforms, we can’t wait to bring passionate Canadian fans a front-row seat to the PWHL and the future of women’s hockey – expanding our robust schedule of marquee events that also includes international tournaments and the Canada-USA Rivalry Series.”

NESN will be the home of all 24 PWHL Boston games for fans in New England, excluding Fairfield County. Fans in New England can watch on NESN or stream on the NESN 360 app by logging in with their TV provider or purchasing a direct subscription.

“We’re thrilled to add the PWHL Boston team to our content lineup,” says Matt Volk, COO, NESN. “NESN is the go-to destination for New England hockey fans to enjoy men’s and women’s hockey on the collegiate and professional level so this addition is great for all of our fans.”

MSG Networks will be the home of all 24 PWHL New York games.

Bally Sports North will be the home of all 24 PWHL Minnesota games and will stream live on the Bally Sports app, available on mobile and tablet devices (including iOS and Android), connected devices and ballysports.com when fans authenticate using their pay-TV credentials. PWHL Minnesota games will also be available on Bally Sports+, the standalone streaming subscription service available from Bally Sports.

League agreements with regional networks allow out-of-market distribution including the potential for games to be added on Sportsnet Pittsburgh and other networks on a case-by-case basis.

All PWHL games will be streamed on the league’s YouTube channel and available outside of Canada. The league may announce additional broadcast partners throughout the season.

As the puck drops for the first time in league history, TSN’s coverage begins on opening day, Monday, Jan. 1, beginning at 12 noon ET on TSN, TSN.ca, and the TSN app, with New York facing Toronto, live from the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto.
