Carolina Hurricanes 25th Anniversary Video Wins Emmy

St. Louis sports video production company, Ryval Studios, won an Emmy award at the 38th Annual Nashville/Midsouth Regional Emmy Awards in the Branded Content – Short Form Content category for their video “Generation Caniac” in association with the Carolina Hurricanes.

This was the first time Ryval Founder and Executive Producer Jon Morgan collaborated with the Carolina Hurricanes to produce their 25th anniversary campaign video for the 2022-2023 season.

“Winning an Emmy award is incredibly humbling,” says Morgan. “I knew that we had created something
special that many would enjoy, but winning an Emmy award for it is the ultimate compliment to the hard
work our great team put in to make it. It just goes to show that with God, anything is possible.”

Ryval Studios worked closely with the Carolina Hurricanes marketing and game presentation departments to create a very heartwarming video about a young child growing up a Hurricanes fan that brings all the memories and emotions to the anniversary campaign. The video tells the story of a 8 year old boy going to the Hurricanes’ first game with his dad and growing up a huge fan, with a heartwarming ending where he takes his daughter to a game in the end. This was a very different type of video that the Hurricanes had not ever done before.

“Generation Caniac was a great addition to our 25 th  Anniversary season last year and it really encapsulates the growth of our fan base over the first 25 years here in North Carolina.”, says Chris Greenley, VP of Entertainment & Production, Carolina Hurricanes. “We are really proud of the work Ryval Studios did on this project.”

To capture this story, Jon Morgan turned to St. Louis based commercial director Brian Cummings to lead the creative vision for this project. Cummings has over 20 years’ experience in the creative industry and has most recently brought his experience to sports. Given his storytelling experience, Morgan knew that Cummings would be perfect to capture the story of the Hurricanes’ 25th anniversary campaign.

“When I got the call from Jon to direct the 25th anniversary campaign video for the Hurricanes, it was a big honor to tell a story about the place I grew up” says Cummings, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina. “I wanted to push the storytelling in a direction that hadn’t been done before in sports and it was a great opportunity to see our work win an Emmy alongside some of the country’s top creative talent.”

Ryval Studios is proud and humbled to win an Emmy in this year’s regional awards with the Hurricanes and plans to enter more work into future competitions. Ryval hopes to work with more sports teams to help them create content that competes.
