NAB 2024: Chyron Partners With #GALSNGEAR to Host Student Production Intensive

Chyron has announced that it will partner with #GALSNGEAR, a movement to bring parity to women in media and entertainment, at the 2024 NAB Show to host the organization’s annual Student Production Intensive. Through this event at the show, April 13–17 in Las Vegas, students from the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University (ASU) will collaborate with industry professionals — volunteer mentors skilled in camera work, lighting, graphics, switching, engineering, and live production — to produce two hours of live-streamed programming.

The result, “Tequity Talk at NAB Show, powered by #GALSNGEAR and Chyron LIVE,” will feature interviews with prominent women and innovators in the tech sphere. Additionally, Chyron LIVE will be utilized to produce the #GALSNGEAR Tech Talk: Spotlight on Virtual Production on Sunday, April 14, from 4-5 p.m.

“Tequity Talk at NAB Show, powered by #GALSNGEAR and Chyron LIVE,” will take place at the Chyron booth, SL2238, on Monday, April 15, from 11 a.m. to noon and again from 3-4 p.m. and will be live streamed to #GALSNGEAR, bit.ly/GNGNABYT24, and to Chyron’s YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/@chyronmelville.

“We’re proud to be joining with #GALSNGEAR to host this unique event, which will showcase the Tequity initiative led by #GALSNGEAR, our Chyron LIVE technology, the NAB Show as a whole, and the creativity and growing expertise of student-producers from ASU,” said Hayes Stamper, senior product marketing manager at Chyron. “Chyron LIVE can be instrumental in democratizing broadcast and communication, giving voice to people whose perspectives haven’t been well represented in storytelling. This year, we are especially excited to welcome Shoflo as a key partner. Their innovative platform for managing production rundowns has proven indispensable in organizing the live segments produced by the students. We’re just so honored to be a part of this effort, which aligns with our larger commitment to engage with colleges and universities to inspire and support future industry professionals.”

“The Student Production Intensive gives us the opportunity to partner with companies like Chyron not only to support the next generation of industry talent, but also to showcase stakeholders who deserve to be seen and heard,” said Danilda Martinez, Director of Programs & Outreach at #GALSNGEAR, who is managing production and mentoring the student livestream experience.

This year’s Student Production Intensive is #GALSNGEAR’s first in-the-cloud live production from the NAB Show floor. In producing the show with guidance from industry experts, students will gain greater awareness of the wide range of job opportunities across the media industry. They will also gain hands-on experience with the Chyron LIVE cloud-based live production platform, cameras from Blackmagic Design, production equipment from Lensrentals, cutting-edge communications systems from Riedel Communications, storage solutions from Perifery, and remote collaborative editing software from Scenery.

The Chyron LIVE all-in-one cloud-native production platform will enable students to create content that normally requires the support of an OB van or an entire control room. Following rapid training via the Chyron Academy, students will produce live programming in the Chyron booth, simply using laptops equipped with Chyron LIVE.

“At #GALSNGEAR, we are dedicated to extending ‘tequity’ — visibility, access, upskilling, and a community of support — throughout the industry,” said #GALSNGEAR founder Amy DeLouise. “The Student Production Intensive is a great example of how we work with leading brands and innovative technologies to increase mentorship opportunities for women and people of color at different points in their careers. Students participating in the intensive at this year’s NAB Show will work closely with a diverse team of seasoned professionals and rising industry leaders to stretch both their skill set and the application of Chyron’s cloud-enabled production technology to produce creative, engaging live content.”

The #GALSNGEAR Tequity Hub is a one-stop shop for women seeking connection, and it hosts monthly conversations on both technical and career topics, as well as upskilling resources, job postings, and beta-testing opportunities. More information is available at www.galsngear.tv.
