GRUP MEDIAPRO Produces the Opening Match of the Copa Chile at Remote Professional Soccer Grounds

Mediapro Chile produced the TV signal for the opening match in the Copa Chile which was held at one of the remotest professional soccer grounds on the planet on Robinson Crusoe Island, located in the Juan Fernández Islands. Without any conventional commercial lines travelling to the islands, the entire production deployment entailed a two-day crossing from Valparaiso to the islands aboard a boat belonging to the Chilean Navy. The match held last Saturday pitted Juan Fernández against Club Santiago Wanderers drawing a local crowd of almost 1,000 fans.

The islands are located in the South Pacific almost 400 nautical miles off the coast of Chile. Mediapro Chile carried out a complex production requiring the transportation of all the necessary broadcast professionals and technical equipment to produce and broadcast the signal for the match to the entire country via TNT Sports.

Due to the weather conditions and the geographical location of the island, there are no commercial line options available to travel to the islands and as such, the Chilean navy stepped up to provide its ship Aquiles to transport the cameras, transmission systems and all the other necessary equipment to ensure transmission from a Third B division soccer grounds, with the crew of broadcast professionals and even the players also aboard the Aquiles to make the 45-hour journey.

Due to the country’s characteristic geography, this is not the first time Mediapro Chile has been charged with carrying out what can be best described as ‘an extreme production’. Last year the company produced the soccer match played at the southernmost point on the planet, in Puerto Natales. Mediapro Chile, which has a presence in the country since 2018, has ample experience in the production of live sporting events and, last year, served as host broadcaster of the Pan American and Parapan American Games held in the country.
