Monumental Sports & Entertainment Nominated for 16 Capital Emmy Awards

On Wednesday night, the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences announces that Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) was nominated for 16 Capital Emmy Awards. The nominations recognized groups and individuals in front of and behind the camera across Monumental Sports Network (MNMT) and MSE’s productions team for their work from January 1 through December 31, 2023.

The Capital Emmys have been awarded on an annual basis for more than six decades and nominations are given based on outstanding achievement in the television profession across all media platforms within the national capital area.

Monumental Sports Network (previously NBC Sports Washington) has had a long history of success with the Capital Emmys. The network has won more than 40 Capital Emmys over the past 10 seasons and received more than 70 nominations. MSE Productions, the company’s in-house production arm, has also had a successful record of nominations and wins. Last year, MSE Productions was nominated for five Capital Emmys and took home four awards.

Winners for this year’s awards will be announced during the 66th Emmy Awards Gala, scheduled for June 22 at the Bethesda North Marriott Hotel and Conference Center in Bethesda, MD.

Monumental Sports Network has undergone a period of rapid growth recently. In August 2022, Monumental Sports & Entertainment acquired full ownership of NBC Sports Washington from Comcast/NBC Universal. The station was rebranded Monumental Sports Network in September 2023 with a new slate of programming. For fans without a Pay TV subscription, in October,Monumental Sports Network rolled out direct-to-consumer (DTC) subscription memberships for viewers seeking to access Monumental Sports Network’s live and on-demand programming. In March of this year, the network unveiled a brand-new multi-million-dollar home for the local media platform, including a best-in-class production facility and broadcast studios. Finally, in early April the network announced a slate of live alternate broadcasts for Washington Capitals and Wizards games with a rotation of hosts, analysts, and special guests.

In addition to owning the local broadcast rights for the Washington Capitals, Wizards, and Mystics, Monumental Sports Network broadcasts a robust lineup of original programming and live men’s and women’s college basketball, college football, college volleyball, high school basketball, and esports, as well as Washington Spirit (NWSL), Old Glory DC (Major League Rugby), and Annapolis Blues (NPSL) games.
