Five Reasons Why 3-D TV Deserves a Second Chance

WSJ.com reports that ridiculed when it made its debut, the 3-D television is getting an overhaul in picture quality with the latest 4K Ultra HD sets. Here’s why catching a 3-D movie at home is more fun—and reasonable—than you might think.

Of the many dubious technologies that the electronics industry has tried to push on consumers over the past few years, perhaps none has been more widely mocked as 3-D TV.

And with good reason. In the early days, the sets were expensive, the 3-D effect they produced unconvincing and cheesy. The fact that you had to wear ridiculous-looking glasses only added insult to injury.

No, you wouldn’t binge watch “Breaking Bad” in 3-D, and, OK, maybe broadcasting the Wimbledon Championships in the format wasn’t such a great idea. But you know what? Kicking back with a 3-D blockbuster at home every now and then is actually pretty fun—even if you do have to wear those funny-looking glasses.
