AES67 Standard Is Successfully Tested at AES Audio-Over-IP Plugfest Event

The Audio Engineering Society (AES) this week reported a successful Plugfest interoperability-testing event for its AES67-2015 standard. Hosted by the AES Standards Committee at National Public Radio’s Washington headquarters Nov. 2-5, the event offered an in-depth examination of AES standard for audio applications of networks and high-performance streaming audio-over-IP (AoIP) interoperability.

aes_logo_stacked_kThis latest Plugfest event demonstrated functional compatibility between a number of implementations, from software applications on a PC to hardware-based FPGA solutions, of the AES67-2015 standard, a revision of AES67-2013 specifying interoperability methods for high-performance streaming AoIP networks.

The four-day event was an opportunity for manufacturers to test AES67 networking-standard protocols with their products in a controlled environment, overseen by Standards Committee members. In total, 13 products were tested by 11 companies: ALC NetworX, Archwave Technologies, Digigram, DirectOut, Lawo, Meinberg Radio Clocks, Merging Technologies, QSC, Telos, Wheatstone, and Yamaha.

“These events are where we can really prove the standard and provide guidance to improve the implementation of standard AES67,” says AES Standards Committee Chair Bruce Olson. “Just like our previous Plugfest event, held in Munich in 2014, our manufacturer partners and Standards Committee members once again helped to further our goals for the professional audio community, as we continue our mission to provide standards and education for audio professionals worldwide.”
