ARRI Cameras Pack Cinematic Punch for Professional/Collegiate Teams, Productions of Live Sports

The Sports Video Group is excited to introduce ARRI as a new corporate sponsor. For over 100 years, the company has been a leading designer and manufacturer of camera and lighting systems as well as system solutions for the film, broadcast, and media industries, with a worldwide distribution and service network. ARRI digital cameras, including the ARRI ALEXA, and lights have been used on some of the world’s biggest stages, from Hollywood blockbusters to premiere live events.

“As a leading manufacturer of cinematic cameras and lights, we have recognized that both viewers and sports teams have led the adoption of cinematic imaging,” says Glenn Kennel, CEO, ARRI. “From professional and college sports teams who use ARRI cameras to share long-format content to having our cameras used at this year’s Super Bowl halftime show, we believe this will only grow in the coming year. We look forward to working with Sports Video Group with its active community and help foster the growth of highly immersive and engaging cinematic visuals.”

Aside from professional teams using ARRI’s equipment like the Detroit Red Wings and nearly half of the National Football League, the company also made an appearance during the Super Bowl LV Halftime Show featuring the Weeknd. ARRI cameras were used at this year’s Super Bowl Halftime show. Seven ALEXA Minis and two AMIRAs were used during the performance, marking the first time that a cinema camera was used to capture the show.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary on the market, the ARRI ALEXA has been recognized with a Scientific and Engineering Award from the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences and an Engineering Emmy from the Television Academy. More importantly, it has helped innumerable filmmakers create award-winning work. Eight of the nine Achievement in Cinematography Oscars presented since the camera’s launch have gone to ALEXA-shot productions. In addition, the camera was leveraged by six of the nine Best VFX Oscar winners and six of the nine Best Picture Oscar winners (the other three were shot with ARRI film cameras). Notable Oscar-winning films captured with ALEXA include Hugo in 2011, Life of Pi in 2012, Gravity in 2013, Birdman in 2014, The Revenant and Spotlight in 2015, Moonlight in 2016, The Shape of Water and Blade Runner 2049 in 2017, Green Book and Roma in 2018, and Parasite and 1917 in 2019.

ARRI’s latest launch is the ARRI AMIRA Live, a cinematic Super 35 live TV camera. Designed specifically for multi-camera live broadcasts, it eliminates external cabling between the camera body and the fiber adapter, resulting in a cleaner and more reliable configuration for live productions. Along with a new, feature-rich software update and the Viewfinder Multicam Monitor VMM-1, AMIRA Live offers a unique combination of system camera efficiencies and truly cinematic images.
