SVG SportsTech On Demand: IO Industries’ Andrew Searle on Enhancements to POV Fleet, Volumetric Capture Technology

In an effort to keep the broadcast-technology community informed this spring, throughout April, SVG is hosting a series of SportsTech On Demand video interviews with executives from the industry’s top technology vendors discussing their latest product releases and company news. Our Kristian Hernandez sat down with Andrew Searle, sales manager, IO Industries, about the company’s efforts.

IO Industries makes small and rugged POV video cameras for capturing new and exciting angles in live sports and entertainment events, such as in pylons or goal posts, inside race cars or on drones. The cameras feature Sony CMOS image sensors with HD and UHD SDI outputs and have fully adjustable paint and shading capability from familiar remote control panels (RCPs). IO Industries also specializes in multi-camera arrays for volumetric video capture and light field imaging, and have designed a new camera – Volucam – to meet the specific needs of these applications. These techniques produce photo-realistic 3D virtual humans derived from captures of their real performances, which can then be used in immersive augmented reality experiences. This was used for the first time in a live production by Sky TV at The 148th Open Championship in July 2019 and will be seen in more sports events throughout 2020.
